The School of Community Health Sciences is committed to preparing students to meet the critical need for public health professionals in Nevada, the nation, and the world. Its mission is to improve quality of life and to eliminate health disparities by providing quality education, research, service, and leadership.
As part of the university's comprehensive campaign, the School of Community Health Sciences has identified the following key fundraising priorities:
Health sciences building
This new state-of-the-art building will have a center core containing classrooms, including a large computer lab;, an advising center;, and student lounges to be shared among the three schools in the Division of Health Sciences: health and human sciences, nursing, and public health.
Nevada Institute for Children's Research and Policy
The institute supports academic and community-based research and rigorous policy analysis to guide the development of enlightened policies and services for Nevada's children.
Center for Health Disparities Research
The center supports research, community outreach, training, and mentoring of students and educational opportunities that address health disparities in Nevada.
Advising support
Support for the School of Public Health's advising program provides high-quality academic and personal advising to students as advisors assist students with class scheduling, academic or career goals, and degree information.
Equipment, software, and database acquisition and replacement
The school maintains rich academic resources for faculty and student research. Private support for these educational materials, as well as current technological tools, will help students and faculty in every public health program.
Faculty opportunity and development funds
Support for faculty research; teaching; and curriculum, professional, and educational development directly affects the diversity and quality of teaching our students receive, both inside and outside the classroom. This program also provides support to help the division recruit and retain outstanding public health faculty for programs in which few qualified candidates are available nationally.
Graduate student fellowships
Private support will fund graduate tuition, research costs, or similar items in graduate programs and are essential to attract health care practitioners back to the classroom for advanced education. These stipends may be combined with graduate assistant positions to enable students to focus on their studies rather than pursue outside employment.
Undergraduate student support
These funds provide support to allow students opportunities to excel academically, including merit-based scholarships, undergraduate assistantships, support for student organizations and events, and international exchange programs.
"Invent the Future"
Major support for the School of Public Health will create endless opportunities for tomorrow's health care professionals. In honor of a significant gift, a donor may name the School of Community Health Sciences; or endowed faculty chairs, professorships, or scholarships.
